What is non-destructive testing?
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a group of inspection methods used to assess the condition of a material, weld or component without cutting, sectioning or otherwise affecting it. Because the item stays serviceable, NDT can be used on components already in service as well as on new fabrication, and defects can be identified in the early phases rather than after a failure. Which NDT method is suitable for my inspection?
It depends on where the defect is expected and what the material is. Surface-breaking defects are usually found with magnetic particle testing on magnetic materials or liquid penetrant testing on non-magnetic ones. Internal defects require ultrasonic testing or radiographic testing. To confirm what a material is rather than whether it is flawed, use PMI. Tell us the material, thickness and joint configuration and we will advise.
Does CAST provide on-site testing?
Yes. We routinely perform inspection both on site and at our facility in the Kidurong Industrial Area, Bintulu. Which is appropriate depends on the component and the method involved — some work is more practical where the equipment is installed, and some is better done at our premises.

Does CAST provide equipment rental?
