Radiographic testing examines the internal integrity of welds and components using radiographic methods, producing a permanent image of what is inside the joint.
How it works
Radiation is directed through the component onto film or a digital detector on the far side. Denser material absorbs more radiation than a void or an inclusion does, so internal features show as differences in density on the resulting radiograph. The image is then interpreted against the acceptance criteria for the job.
Why radiography is specified
It shows internal weld condition directly, and it produces a permanent, reviewable record that can be archived with the project documentation and re-examined later — something the other methods do not provide in the same way. For volumetric examination of welds it remains one of the most widely accepted methods in the oil and gas and fabrication industries.
Safety and licensing
Industrial radiography involves ionising radiation and is a licensed activity in Malaysia, regulated by the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB / ATOM). Work requires a controlled area with access restricted while exposures are taking place, which normally means scheduling around other trades or working outside main shift hours. Practical considerations
Radiography generally needs access to both sides of the component, and the exclusion zone affects surrounding work. Where those constraints are difficult, ultrasonic testing is often the practical alternative for internal examination. Tell us the joint configuration and site conditions and we will advise which is more suitable.

Radiography is the most access- and schedule-sensitive method we offer, so it is worth discussing early. Tell us the joint configuration, the material thickness and what else will be happening on site, and we will advise whether radiography or ultrasonic testing gives you the better result for the constraints you are working within.
